Benefits of Bodywork and Massage Therapy

A few of these wonderful benefits include:

  • Increased circulation (through the tissues to move the toxins out into the blood stream where they can exit the body and move the nutrient-rich, oxygenated blood into the tissues)
  • Relaxation
  • General wellness and sense of well-being
  • Relief from muscular tension, discomfort, and pain
  • Better structural balance (structural balance translates into better circulation and more efficient bodily function)
  • Improvement in performance in athletics, business and life.

Some specific problems that can be addressed:

  • Neck, back and lower back pain
  • Whiplash and other accident injuries
  • Headaches of different types
  • Joint pain (shoulder, elbow, knee, hip, ankle, wrist, hands and feet)
  • Muscle pain, pulls, strains
  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Plantar Fascitis and heel spurs
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Digestive problems (constipation, acid reflux, Hiatal hernia).

Touch, in the form of bodywork or massage therapy, can be a wonderful support for those who are on a healing path, such as counseling, psychotherapy, or a recovery program.

Our bodies are always striving for balance.  Through injury, misuse, neglect, or illness our bodies may not be able to find their way back to balance without the support and stimulus of bodywork or massage, or the assistance offered by other practitioners such as an acupuncturist, chiropractor, physical therapist, physician or surgeon.  You are unique and what works for you is unique.  The wonderful fact is that you have a choice.  Whether or not you have already tried some of the other alternatives, perhaps bodywork or massage therapy is what you need.  I look forward to assisting you in any way that I can.

Ortho-Bionomy® is a bodywork system that is easily utilized by itself or with many other modalities.  Its effective ease and gentleness for both the practitioner and the client are among its outstanding features.  By finding structural balance, the body functions more efficiently and with less stress, blood circulates more freely; muscles find the tone that is proper for them.  Ortho-Bionomy® helps the body find new, more efficient patterns of function and movement.

An Ortho-Bionomy® Approach to Working with Muscles of the Neck and Torso

August 18, 2019, 9 am to 6 pm

Whether you are looking for new ways to work with muscles in your massage therapy practice or looking for ways to broaden and strengthen your knowledge of Ortho-Bionomy®, this class is for you.  I bring 28 years of practice in massage therapy and 25 years of using Ortho-Bionomy® and applying its principles in my massage and bodywork sessions.  What I have come to believe in my practice is that it is not enough to have tools in my tool belt.  I also need to have as many ways as possible in knowing where to look.  I have found that the various structural and functional relationships help us know where to work.  I also feel that knowledge of the muscle trigger points is yet another way of looking at the body and providing more places to “look” in the search for those keystone holding patterns.  Those of you who have attended my classes, Functional Anatomy and Coloring Outside the Lines, are familiar with these concepts.

What makes this class different from the Phase 4 Extremities class?  The answer is several things:

  1. The focus is on specific muscles and not joints.  Don’t be frightened, there won’t be a test and there will not be long anatomical lectures.  The structure of the class will be like other OB classes: short on lecture and long on demonstration and practice with plenty of room for your questions.  I will help you know what exactly you have your hands on, show you specific points to monitor, give you reasons why you are working there, and show you the ways to work with that muscle.  Sometimes there is more that one way to work with it and I will show these to you as well.
  2. There will be structural/functional information or signs that will help you know that this is one more place to look in our detective search for the source of that discomfort or dysfunction.

  1. Gives you the knowledge to help you go right to the heart of the problem.  This is especially helpful when working in the context of a massage therapy session.  You can address those problem areas early on in the session helping your clients become more relaxed and receptive to what follows.
  2. This is a more specific way of working that will compliment but not replace the basic Ortho-Bionomy® work.

This is a fun and informative class. You will learn techniques that can be easily used with other modalities.

8 units.  This class is an Elective in regard to Ortho-Bionomy® practitioner training.  No prerequisites, though either previous OB experience or muscle knowledge of the region may be helpful.

This is a largely hands-on workshop, consisting mainly of hands-on anatomy review, and technique demonstration and practice, so wear your loose-fitting, comfortable clothing.   Classes are conducted at a pace that is tailored to the participants, so we will cover as much of the material as is possible, with that in mind.
